Women Empowerment Alliance
We are proud to work in partnership with Women Empowerment Alliance which aims to foster equal opportunities for women and girls in South Sudanese communities, empowering women and girls through sustainable livelihood programs, health education and women's rights advocacy.
In South Sudan, women face the persistent challenge of chronic unemployment along with widespread sexual violence and systemic injustice. In the face of volatility and economic hardship, 95% experience inadequate earnings, poor working conditions and infringements on fundamental rights in vulnerable employment. As well as over 26% of women and girls aged 15 to 49 years reporting that they had been subject to physical and/or sexual violence by a current or former intimate partner.
Women Empowerment Alliance aims to foster equal opportunities for women and girls in South Sudanese communities, empowering women and girls through sustainable livelihood programs, health education and women’s rights advocacy.
With support from The Circle, Women Empowerment Alliance provides professional driving training to vulnerable South Sudanese women. This programme is made for young women who have faced challenges, including discontinued education, widowhood, single motherhood, and experiences of gender-based violence. The programme also offers employment opportunities for trainees, opening doors to work as professional drivers within UN Agencies and other international organisations, as an essential stepping stone to economic empowerment.
